Secondary Condition Claim · VASRD 8100
A condition caused or aggravated by an already service-connected disability can be granted its own service connection as a secondary condition under 38 CFR § 3.310. Here's how that works for Migraine when it develops after Retinitis.
Primary condition · VASRD 6029
Retinitis
Inflammation of the retina causing vision problems or blindness.
Secondary condition · VASRD 8100
Migraine
Severe recurring headaches that may include nausea, light sensitivity, and inability to function.
The VA rates Migraine the same way whether it's claimed directly or as secondary to Retinitis — severity of Migraine itself determines the percentage.
Example combined rating
60% Retinitis + 30% Migraine = 72%
The VA combines ratings with Table I of 38 CFR 4.25, not simple addition — 60% and 30% combine to 72%, not 90%. These figures are illustrative; your actual rating for each condition depends on your own evaluation.
