Veterans Service Organizations (VSOs)

VSOs like DAV, VFW, and The American Legion are recognized by VA to prepare and file claims on your behalf — completely free. Their 8,698 accredited representatives handle everything from initial claims to appeals paperwork.

How to get free help from a VSO

  1. Pick an organization below (or on your state's page) and call its office — or find local representatives with VA's "Find a representative" tool.
  2. Appoint them officially with VA Form 21-22 (they'll walk you through it, or you can appoint online at va.gov).
  3. They gather evidence, file, and track your claim — and can represent you in higher-level reviews and Board appeals.
