What each SMC level covers, in the law's words

Each level from SMC-K to SMC-S quotes 38 U.S.C. § 1114, the statute that establishes it, and VA where VA's rates page describes it; SMC-S and SMC-Q also quote 38 C.F.R. § 3.350, the regulation VA applies. […] marks a dollar amount written into the statute's text. Those figures are not what VA pays today. VA's current monthly rates are in the tables above; where the statute names a limit or an added allowance, VA's table shows the whole monthly rate instead.

Which level applies to you

VA decides SMC from your service-connected disabilities under 38 C.F.R. § 3.350, which carries out each subsection of the statute quoted above, and § 3.352, which holds the criteria for needing aid and attendance and for being permanently bedridden. This page does not tell you which level your record supports: for that, talk to a VA-accredited representative (a Veterans Service Organization, or an accredited attorney or claims agent). Vetrify's pay calculator and the other calculators compute basic compensation only; they do not include SMC. The basic rates by rating are on the VA pay chart.
